I’ve done a ton of cold outreach for helping Christian authors get on podcasts.
I have a typical framework for outreach, which makes things a little easier.
But I look forward to doing outreach like I look forward to my hands being rope-tied to a sled and dragged around the block on a Texas asphalt by huskies training for the Iditarod in summer.
But because I am not awful at it, authors pay me to do it.
There is a secret to why I am not awful at it.
Well, I AM persistent. I don’t back down until I get a “yes” or a “no”. I never assume one touch is enough.
But that is not the secret.
Everybody and their dog is persistent at outreach.
Here’s my secret.
I get them to laugh.
They actually respond with “Ha. Ha....”
Here is one of my recent responses:
“Hahah I love your persistence! On a family vacay now but will leave this unread to get back to you”
It took two months from first DM till she replied.
You probably are not doing cold outreach, but you write to get reactions. Emails, comments, or DMs. Use every opportunity to practice having fun, and even be funny.
Especially do this when emailing a friend or colleague.
So, what did I DM this podcast host, who booked my author for an amazing interview?
There is only one way to find out.

P.S. You may be wondering what all this has to do with being a Christian. “Where, Blair, is your verse and devotional?” Devotionals are bad discipleship devices. I am interested in training Christians to use humor to become better fishers.
